Creating a tube (Photoshop 7)
1. For this tutorial, create a new Photoshop document, 600 x 480 (or really whatever size you think you'd like for the tube to be) in RGB mode.
2. Make a new layer.
3. Using the rectangle marquee too, draw a long rectangular tube.
4. Switch to the gradient tool. Moving from left to right, fill the rectangle with a copper gradient.
4. Next, go Image --> Adjustment ---> Desaturate. Do not deselect!
5. Now open a new document, width=1 pixel height=4. White background. Zoom in until you can see the area. Use the pen tool and draw the upper two pixels black.
6. Go Edit -- Define Pattern.
7. Call this pattern Black and white
8. Switch back to the tube. Make a new layer. Go Edit --> Fill --> Pattern. Using the fly out menu, choose the pattern you just made and fill the rectangle on the new layer with the pattern.
9. On this layer, change the blend mode to Multiply. Deselect.
10. Next, go Layer -->Merge Down ...to merge the pattern layer and the layer with the gradient.
11. Click on the "effects" button located in the lower left corner of the layers palette and choose "drop shadow." Change the opacity to around 50%.
12. Bend your tube by going to Filter --> Distort --> Shear. (If you don't like the results be sure to click "Defaults" to start over).
