LESSON 12 - BUILDING AN AVS SITE
The first thing you need to get started is some decent content, because most of the AVS systems out there will require it in order to list you on their link list. You will want to optimize this content for the web, but it should be better quality (less compressed, bigger images) than content you would use for a free site. Be careful to read the rules of the AVS you are building for, as they may have minimum image sizes, and a minimum number of pics you can use (generally 30 pics). The next step is to build a "tour" of your members area. You have to make the surfer really want to see what you have inside your protected area or they are not going to bother shelling out for a membership to the AVS. This can be anywhere from 1 to 4 pages long and can include samples of what's inside. Be careful not to give the surfer too much or again, they will have no reason to purchase a membership. You can show them face-shots or partially clothed shots of the girls/guys inside, or you can show censored nude samples where all the interesting bits are blurred out or covered with something. The most important part of selling an AVS membership is descriptive text. As I said before, you really need to make the surfer horny so that they HAVE to see what's inside your protected area. You will also need to have a designated place on your tour for reciprocal links to link lists, top lists, etc. You might want to have 1 page which you submit to the search engines (index.html) and another exact copy of this page with your recip links (index1.html).
The final page of your tour should really convince the surfer (if you haven't already) by showing them all of the other awesome features they get when they become a member of the AVS system. Be sure to go through the AVS you are promoting and find out how many sites they have, and what other good selling features you can use. You can say something like "You not only get access to our site, but over 100,000 other quality sites with your membership!" You will also want to include the script for the AVS on this page (on most AVS' you get this script when you add your site and can include it then).
Don't put any banners to outside sponsors on your tour pages. Your goal there is to sell an AVS membership to your surfer. Save those for the protected area. Most AVS systems will allow you to have a certain number of sponsor links inside your members area - the number and placement of these links allowed will vary. If you follow the AVS rules and get listed in their link list, this can be a very nice source of quality traffic going to your member's area and seeing your ads for your sponsor sites. This is traffic that has already proven that they don't mind whipping out their credit card for a good time.
